Cake II

>> 24 April 2008

Cake number 2 is complete, I took it to work and the girls liked it so much they ate it...to bad for Dan, he didn't even get a crumb(who made this post?). Let me tell you a little about this cake in case your wondering. It is frosted with a pale pink, almond flavored icing. Raspberry filling separates the layers, and although it doesn't show in the picture there is a touch of edible glitter sprinkled over the entire cake. And don't feel so bad for Dan, I am baking a cake for the brother-in-law tomorrow that he will enjoy, and last week him and Annette consumed quite a bit of the rainbow cake. So please don't feel pity on Dan. A bit nervous about the brother in law cake- have a plan and discussed this my Wilton Instructor Tuesday- I'll post some pics Sunday. Have a great Friday!

May Day, May Day, May Day

>> 14 April 2008

Mayday is an emergency code word used internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications. It derives from the French venez m'aider, meaning 'come to my aid'/"come [to] help me." You can all rest- there is not emergency. In fact one sock is done and I am feverishly completing the heel flap on the second sock. I do not have a picture at the moment- but it is a lovely Monkey Sock knit in J-Knits sock yarn. I'll try to post a picture later this week..back to my icing emergency.

What Next

That is what my husband is saying after I came home from my first Wilton Cake Decorating class. It is very cool. Last night we learned how to make butter creme frosting and how to slice a cake in half (yes, Liz, of course I bought the tool) and fill it with something yummy. This is my good friend Ginger Baker, they do not call her that for nothing, displaying a parchment icing tube that we made. Appearently we will be using these next week to decorate our first cakes! Ginger was full of questions and I am sure already got her moneys worth, however I am going to concentrate on simply baking a flat cake this week. How exciting. Don't worry May Day Secret Swapper, I will work on those during lunch!

Oh and did I mention they have a special tool to fill cupcakes?

Who doesn't love sweets. The next special swap is a "Sweet Treats" swap. Very hard to pass on this swap. Lynne, also know as the "Swap Mama" who graciously organizes our swap came up with a survey so swappers could get to know what eac h of us desire. So here goes, after a lot of thought:
1. What were your three favorite treats in your Halloween bag? Reeses peanut cups, snickers and m&m's

2. What were the three treats that you would trade away? Gummies, fruity stuff and suckers

3. Do you bake? once, but I start a cake decorating class Tuesday, so that could change

4. Do you order dessert in a restaurant? If so, what is your favorite dessert? Yes and it is the peanut butter pie at the Shamus. Did I mention Ann tops it with homemade hot fudge!

5. Tell me about your favorite Candy-colored yarns, and what candy are they inspired from?

6. When you knit a special "icing on the cake" accessry for your outfit, would you knit ...... socks, a scarf, a hat or a bag? bags and socks- no hats

7. Describe the perfect ice cream sundae. Vanilla icecream, peanut butter and hotfudge, whipcream, nuts and cherry

8. Are there any knitting treats that you would love to add to your collection?

A book you would like for your library? Sensational Knitted Socks

A knitting gadget for your notions bag? dpn holders for WIP's

A sweet yarn? Any yarn, especially sock yarn is sweet in book

9. Think about the best homemade dessert from Mom or Grandma. Do you have the recipe to share? Mom and Grandma always made cookies and more cookies at Christmas- one desert mom makes is a ice cream sandwich cake, layers of ice cream sandwiches, whip cream hot fudge and your favorite candy crushed up- it want the exact recipe let me know- delicious

10. What local or regional treats would you insist your swap partner try if she visited your town? a visit to a local candy shop for sponge candy

11. Cupcakes....talk amonst yourselves. The newest rage! Everyone is selling the gourmet cupcake- fun and easy to make and yummy. Which is why I have signed up for the cake decorating class. Stay tuned for more details.
Guess I had better get busy on my May Day sock- May 1st is right around the corner!

Wee Tiny Sock

>> 03 April 2008

Your probably asking yourself what is this picture all about- especially you Spencer! This will be called the "perfect end to a crazy day". First, notice the Wee Tiny Sock in the flowers. This came today, all the way from Minnesota I believe. Connie, who is also a fellow knitter and blogger, did a awesome job. I am sure of you will think this is weird, but to 276 of us it is pure excitement. I can't to put it on my Wee Tiny Sock blocker. Now the flowers were also waiting for me when I arrived home, so another great surprise, all in one night. Wee Tiny Socks and flowers, what more could a girl ask for! Oh a bike helmet and I got that tonight also, we'll save that for another post.
I mentioned a crazy day at work... all I'll say is we have a pond out in front of our building and today a car was in it- yep craziness.
